Volunteering at Northumbria

Northumbria University Sport offers all students the opportunity to become involved in our Student Development programme - the first stage of which is volunteering.

Becoming part of this programme is your chance to get a first foot on the ladder within a vibrant, well recognised and well respected sports organisation and to gain valuable, professional workplace experience. It also allows you to become an integral part of Northumbria University Sport as a whole and to represent and be part of our team.

If you are serious about a career in sport, the Northumbria University Sport Volunteer programme is the place to start! Volunteering with us will stand you in good stead if you would like to apply for any internship positions or part time roles in subsequent years.

Northumbria University Sport offers you basic volunteer training and role specific training before you start any of your voluntary work in your chosen strand. This includes free Safeguarding Children and First Aid courses, as well as a free CRB Check (all valuable tools for your career in sport)

Upon completion of your introductory training, you will receive kit which you will be expected to wear during your voluntary placement. You will also receive ongoing support from workshops which will be provided throughout the year to address areas including application writing and interview techniques and additional sports related courses.

Volunteer Commitments

Time commitments vary from strand to strand but once successful in your application, Northumbria University Sport asks that you give a minimum of 15 hours volunteering work in semester 1 and 15 hours in semester 2 (30 hours across the academic year)

We value the commitment of our volunteers and recognise this through providing Northumbria University Global Citizenship awards and volunteer certificates for your time. We may also put you forward to receive an award at our prestigious annual sports ball.

Volunteering Opportunities 2012/13

Volunteering opportunities for this semester have been filled, however there may be opportunities in December, please check back regularly for updates.

What happens if I am not successful in the application process?

Do not worry if you are not successful in the application process; this is not the end of the road for you. All unsuccessful applicants will be put on to our volunteer database and any ad hoc volunteering opportunities that arise will be sent out on a first come, first served basis.

All our volunteering positions get reviewed at the end of the first semester and any positions that become available will be sent out for re-application. There may also be new positions that become available ready for the start of term in January.
