This course is open to everyone - students, staff and members of the public.

Course Content:

  • Learn about the positive attitudes a referee should have, an effective knowledge of the laws of the game , how a referee shoul prepare for a game, effective communication, refereeing the key phases of the game, management and control.
  • Look at problem solving issues
  • Develop a variety of positioning and communication skills.

Qualification Gained:

  • RFU Entry Level Referee Award

  • Minimum age of 14 years

Coaching Children Rugby Union Level 1

Course Content:

  • Safely organising and supervising Rugby Union Activities
  • Understanding of handling skills, tackling, contact and continuity, 5 man scrum, line-out throwing and support techniques
  • Understanding of player development, good coaching practice, coaching skills, health and safety and laws of the game
  • Identify and adapt rugby union activities and sessions for a variety of different age groups    

Qualification Gained:

  • RFU Coaching Children Rugby Union Level 1

Course Pre-Requisites:

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Have previously attended a Rugby Ready course

Intramural Rugby Union (students only)

Men's Rugby  Union is a popular sport at Northumbria with over 300 people attending trials. That's why this year we are introducing an Intramural Rugby Union Feeder League to give those who don't make the teams the opportunity  to still participate competitively.

There will be opportunities to receive coaching and train alongside the BUCS 3rd XV squad for those who are performing well and wish to advance their playing level. There will also be opportunities to develop coaching and referee programmes for students as well as leadership roles with the feeder teams.

When:
Saturday @ Bullocksteads Sports Ground

Entry Fee:
Entry fee will be £20 per person and will cover matches and training each week for Semester 2.  

Duration:
9 Weeks. 

Booking Information:
You can Book Online or at Sport Central Reception.

Online Booking Instructions:
1) Enter your Login ID and Pin. If you are a Northumbria University student or staff member your login is your computer username and your PIN is your library Pin. If you are not a Northumbria University student or staff member you must sign up.
2) Change your preferred booking site to Campus Sport (this is in the top right hand corner)
3) Click on 'Make a Booking'
4) Click on Campus Sport link
5) Select the session you wish to book then select the first date. This will book you onto the duration of the league.
