This website is brought to you by Northumbria University Sport at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle. We take the privacy of our website users very seriously. We ask that you read this Privacy Policy (‘the Policy’) carefully as it contains important information about how we will use your personal data.

For the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998, Northumbria Sport at the University of Northumbria (‘we’ or ‘us’) is the ‘data controller’ (i.e. the organisation who is responsible for, and controls the processing of, your personal data).

Personal data we may collect about you

We will obtain personal data about you (such as your name, address, email address, telephone number, membership number, payment details, opinions etc) whenever you complete an online form.

For example, we will obtain your personal data when you register to use this website, send us feedback, contact us for any reason, sign up to a service, respond to surveys and purchase goods or services.

We may monitor your usage of this website. This may include monitoring how many times you visit, which pages you go to, traffic data, location data and the originating domain name of a user’s internet service provider. This information helps us to build a profile of our users. Some of this data will be aggregated or statistical, which means that we will not be able to identify you individually. How we store your personal data

The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (EEA). It may also be processed by staff operating outside the EEA who work for us or for one of our suppliers. Such staff may be engaged in, among other things, the fulfilment of your requirements, the processing of your payment details and the provision of support services. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with the Policy.

All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers. Any payment transactions will be encrypted where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of our site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share a password with anyone.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our site; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.  If your personal information is accessed by an unauthorised Third party, we will not be responsible for any direct or indirect damage caused as a result of such unauthorised access.

How we may use your personal data

We may use your personal data for any of the following purposes:

  • to help us identify you and any account you hold with us;
  • to register you with Northumbria Sport at Sport Central, to set up and manage your membership account and to administer our services administration;
  •  to carry out our obligations arising from any contracts entered into between you and us;
  • to enforce our terms and conditions of use including carrying out security reviews to validate your identity, age, contact details and financial information;
  • statistical analysis;
  • to provide you with information, products or services that you request from us or which we feel may interest you, where you have consented to be contacted for such purposes marketing;
  • fraud prevention and detection;
  • to provide any services or information you have requested, including through the use of email and text message where appropriate;
  • to notify you any changes to this website or our services which may affect you; and
  • improving our services.

Disclosure of your information

We value your privacy and do not sell your information to any third parties under any circumstances. However, we may give information about you to the following who may use it for the same purposes as set out above:

  • to agents and employees of the University of Northumbria at Newcastle to administer any accounts, products and services provided to you now or in the future;
  • to suppliers who profile your data so that we may tailor the goods/services we offer to your specific needs;
  • to anyone to whom we transfer or may transfer our rights and duties under our agreement with you;
  • if we have a duty to do so or if the law allows us to do so;
  •  to third parties who will help process or administer our services.

Your right to control what communications, if any, that you receive from us, is important. You have the right to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. We will usually inform you (before collecting your data) if we intend to use your data for such purposes or if we intend to disclose your information to any third party for such purposes. Marketing and opting out

 We may also use your data, or permit selected third parties to use your data, to provide you with information about goods and services which may be of interest to you and we or they may contact you about these.

If you are an existing member, we will only contact you by electronic means (e-mail or SMS) with information about goods and services similar to those which were the subject of your previous membership.

If you are a new member, and where we permit selected third parties to use your data, we (or they) will contact you by electronic means only if you have consented to this.

 If you do not want us to use your data in this way, or to pass your details on to third parties for marketing purposes, please select the relevant option on the form on which we collect your data. If you prefer not to receive any further marketing communications from us, you can opt out at any time by contacting us at www.nusportcentral.co.uk.

This site may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of our partner networks, advertisers and affiliates.  If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies.  Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites

Important notifications will at our discretion be proactively provided to members, including any code changes to barriers, class cancellations, membership terms or bookings changes. These notifications may be sent by email, text message, post or any other appropriate means.

 We maintain a list of people who have expressed an interest in receiving updates about local events, special promotions and offers. These can be sent by a variety of different methods and include email, post or text message according to your preferences. You can subscribe to these updates at any time, and unsubscribe by following the instructions at the bottom of any update.  In addition, you may reply to email or text messages from us requesting that your address be unsubscribed. Any request will take approximately 5 working days to process.

We will use email and/or text messaging to communicate with you if you use our Online Booking Service or make a purchase online. You can update your communications preferences at any time by following the links located at the bottom of emails from us.

Keeping your data secure

We will use technical and organisational measures to safeguard your personal data. Whilst we will use all reasonable efforts to safeguard your personal data, you acknowledge that the use of the internet is not entirely secure and for this reason we cannot guarantee the security or integrity of any personal data which are transferred from you or to you via the internet.

Monitoring

We may monitor and record communications with you (such as telephone conversations and emails) for the purpose of quality assurance, training, fraud prevention and compliance).

Use of cookies

When you use this website, we may collect information about your computer, such as your IP address and/or browser, which we will use for administration purposes and statistical analysis. This information will not usually identify you personally.
